Registration: $35 limited to 1st 30 cars registered.

Derby Information:

  1. This event is operated by the Ilderton Agricultural Society.
  2. All the rules and regulations can be found by following the links by calling Evan at
    519-666-0058.
  3. The following classes will be held at the Ilderton Fair:
    • 8 Cylinder Stock Class, No welding – “Gut n’ Go”, Entry level derby, Good class for first time
      drivers & teams
    • 4 Cylinder Figure 8 Class, 10 laps of figure 8 track, 6 cars per heat
  4. All debris from entrants must be removed at the conclusion of the event.

PLEASE RED ALL THE RULES .

Please note: The trunk and hood must remain open until the inspection of all cars are complete. They may be closed and properly secured after officials have given their approval

1. RIDING ON CAR Insurance regulations: No person riding on outside of cars at anytime.

2. GLASS, WINDOWS & AIR BAGS All windows and airbags must be removed prior to
     event.

3. TRIM Remove all exterior trim, chrome moldings, door handles, mirrors, antennas and grills.

4. BODY PANELS Metal may be cut from around wheels for clearance.
     Front and rear Quarter panels may be bolted with up to 5 bolts per panel- maximum 3/8 bolts.

5. DOOR FASTENING Driver and passenger doors must be reinforced and can be welded
     solid. All other doors must be fastened shut with wire, straps, ¼” chains or spot welded.1” every
     12” or 6 – 3” square plated welded.

6. BUMPERS  Any compact 4 cylinder bumper is allowed.
                           Front bumper may be welded as far as the front of the rad cradle.
                           No cutting of bumpers. May be bent inward.
                           Bumpers can not be wired to the hood.
                           No reinforcement or loading of bumpers. (holes may be required to be cut in bumpers)
                           – Officials discretion

7. FRONT GRILL
         Screens allowed, bolted or welded to rad cradle only.(stock A/C condensers permitted in original
         position.

8. HOOD & TRUNK LID
        It is mandatory that an opening be cut in the hood over the carburetor at least 8 inches square. (Strictly
            Enforced)
        It is recommended that the hood latch be removed in case of fire.
        Hood and trunk lid or tailgate must be fastened down in 4 places with seat belt strapping,
            wire or ¼”chain only through each hole. NO welds on hood.
        Hood must be kept in original position and must be left open until after inspection.
        Trunk lid/tailgate must be in original position. Trunk/ tailgate may be welded down in 6 locations
            using 3”  square plates maximum and 16“ hole in the trunk if it can not be opened for inspection.
        Officials discretion re over-use of materials.

9. FLAMABLE MATERIALS
       All flammable materials except driver’s seat and dash board must be removed. E.g. carpeting,
       head liner, door panels, rear seat, sun visors etc

10. FIREWALL
       All holes in firewall must be filled/covered with a non-flammable material.
       NO reinforcements.

11. BRACING
       Outside car: Driver and Passenger door must be reinforced.
       Flat bar only bolted 4 times. (with maximum ½” diameter through bolts) spot welded 1” every
           12” on each side of vehicle, e.g. Max 60” long by 12” wide by ¼” thick. Beveling is allowed.
       NO “C”CHANNEL, ANGLE IRON.

12. FRAME ALTERATIONS
       Stitching welding or any altering of frames deemed unnecessary will not be tolerated. No painting of
       frames.

13. WHEELBASE
       Wheelbase can not be altered.

14. ROLL BAR:
       Inside car: Roll cage is highly recommended

15. WINDSHIELD SPACE
       Must have a minimum of a steel bar or steel chain from the cowl to the roof bolted or welded.
       The ”A” o r “H” style protection is permissible but the bars must look like the :A” or “H”. The cross
           brace must be in the middle and in no way come in contact with the distributor protector. The
           horizontal bar must be a minimum 8” from the cowl. If using the “A” , it may be welded or
           bolted in 3 locations. If using the “H”, It may be welded or bolted in 4 locations and be no
           more than 36” in width.
       The driver must not be impaired from exiting from the window area of the car in case of an
       emergency.

16. SUSPENSION
       Suspension must remain stock. (Movement must occur)
       Broken and sagging parts may be replaced.
       It is recommended that rear coiled springs be wired to the differential.
       No spring blocks or added helpers are allowed.

17. TRAILER HITCH
       Must be removed and all sharp edges must be bashed down prior to event.

18. BATTERY:
       Only one 12 volt battery must be moved to the front passenger floor board and securely
       fastened in a box/ container clear of all fuel sources. Following inspection it must be covered
       with a non flammable shield.

19. ENGINE MOUNTS
       Welded solid or chained down engine mounts are recommended.

20. HEADERS
       Headers must point straight up.

21. RADIATOR
       Radiator and cooling system must be flushed of antifreeze and only water added.
       Over flows for radiator must be pointed downward to the ground.
       Floating or leaned back rad cradles will be accepted.

22. TRANSMISSION COOLER
       Transmission coolers are permitted and must be secured in the engine compartment.
       Transmission dipstick must be securely  fastened, wired down or have an overflow tube pointing
            straight down away from the driver or spectators.

23. GAS TANK
       Stock gas tank must be removed. Must be a steel marine tank, custom steel fuel tank or
            certified racing fuel cell. No plastic fuel tanks.
       All tanks must be securely fastened down (bolted) in the middle of the back seat area.
       Tank must be covered with a non flammable material after inspection.
       Maximum 3 gallons of gas.
       Referee has final decision.

24. FUEL LINES
       Gas lines and fitting to fuel tank must be securely fastened.
       Gas lines must be metal or approved rubber. No plastic gas lines will be permitted.

25. ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP
       All electric fuel pumps MUST have a safety shut off switch (push button) marked in red located
       on the centre of the roof area for officials use.

26. FUEL SYSTEM
        Electric fuel pump must be securely fastened and be isolated with a non flammable material
        covering lines tank and pump.
        Non flammable covering may be a fire resistant blanket or air bag material.

27. TIRES
        All tires must be passenger car tires. No snow tires on drive axles. No double tires, liquid filled
        tires, cut tires, studs, chains or screws in the rims to hold tires.
        Largest tire permitted is P-235/75 R15 or equivalent
        All tires must be D.O.T. approved for passenger vehicles.

28. FIRE EXTINGUISHER
       Must be within reach of the driver, must work and have a working gauge.

29. DOORS & NUMBERS
       The entire driver’s and passenger’s door must be painted white before entering the fair grounds.
        No painting of numbers on doors.
        No all white cars will be allowed in the derby. You must paint a pattern or different colours over
            the white, except the doors.
30. FIGURE 8 RACE
       Absolutely no deliberate demolition derbying. This will result in disqualification.

SPECIAL NOTES

The vehicle must be swept clean, no glass.

Metal, junk tires or wheels are not allowed in the car or the trunk.

Cars run in previous derbies or cars deemed unfit or unsafe by the officials can be refused entry into the competition.

No entry fees will be returned after vehicle has been registered unless the derby is cancelled.

Any arguments, fights, or use of foul language with any of the flag men or officials will mean disqualification.

1. RIDING ON CAR

      Insurance regulations: No person riding on outside of cars at anytime.

2. GLASS, WINDOWS & AIR BAGS

      All glass including windshield, side windows, rear window, head and tail lights, bulbs and lenses
          must be removed. Rolling down the windows is not permitted.
      No fragments are to be in the vehicles or the doors.
      All air bags must be removed.

3. TRIM

      Remove all exterior trim, chrome moldings, door handles, mirrors, antennas and grills. 

4. BODY PANELS

      Any sharp protruding fins or dangerous objects (bent panels) must be either mashed
      down or cut off.

5. DOOR FASTENING

      All doors must be fastened shut with wire, straps, ¼” chains or seat belts in 4 locations.

6. BUMPERS

      Only 1980 and newer original stock car bumpers are allowed. (Ford on Ford, Chev on Chev etc)
      No cutting of bumpers – may be bent inward. Bumper can not protrude past the width of the car.
      Stock sized bumper bolts acceptable for mounting. Bumpers can not be wired to the hood.
      No loading of bumpers(holes may be required to be cut in bumpers) Official’s discretion.

7. FENDERS

      Fenders may be cut for wheel clearance only. Inner fenders may be removed.

8. HOOD & TRUNK LID
      The hood may be removed. It is recommended to leave the air breather on.
      It is mandatory that an opening be cut in the hood over the carburetor at least 8 inches square.
          (Strictly enforced)
      It is recommended that the hood latch be removed in case of fire.
      A hole should be cut in the middle of the trunk lid for visibility.
      Hood and trunk lid or tailgate must be fastened down in 6 places with seat belt strapping, wire or
          ¼”chain only through each hole.
      Hood must be kept in original position and must be left open until after inspection.
      Trunk lid/tailgate must be in original position.
      Officials discretion re over-use of materials.

9. FLAMABLE MATERIALS

10. FLOOR
       Driver’s compartment floor must be sound with no large holes for the driver’s.  
       Screwing or welding the floor is permissible.

11. FIRE WALL

       All holes in firewall must be filled/covered with tin or a non-flammable material.
       NO reinforcements.

12. BRACING

       Inside car: No cross bracing or firewall bracing.
       Post to post bar behind the front seat 2” to 4” diameter – must be bolted.
       Outside car: Drivers door must be reinforced. Passenger’s door may be reinforced in same way.
       Flat bar only bolted 6 times. (with maximum ½” diameter through bolts)
       E.g.  Max 72” long by 12” wide by ¼” thick. NO “C”CHANNEL, ANGLE IRON or BEVELLING.

13. FRAME

       Frames must remain in stock form. NO PATCHING, REPAIRING, PAINTING,
       REINFORCMENTS OR BRACING IS  ALLOWED. (Officials discretion)

14. ROLL BAR

       A single BOLTED IN roll over bar is allowed.
       NO roll cages are allowed.

15. WINDSHIELD SPACE

        Strong steel construction type wire mesh is recommended for left front windshield area only.
        One (1) upright steel chain or iron bar must be bolted in the windshield space.

16. SHOCKS, LEAF SPRINGS & COILS
      
       Shocks, coils and leaf springs must be stock and remain in stock operation order
       (movement must occur) maximum 5 leaf springs. It is recommended that rear
       coiled springs be wired to the differential.

17. BODY MOUNTS  

       Rubber body mounts must be kept in with stock sized bolts.
       If rotten, they may be replaced with stock sized bolts and stock sized body mounts.

18. TRAILER HITCH

        Must be removed and all sharp edges must be bashed down prior to event.

19. WELDING

        Absolutely no welding on vehicle.  Differential: LOCKING THE REAR END IS PERMISSIBLE.

20. BATTERY

         Only one 12 volt battery must be moved to the front passenger floor board and
              securely fastened.
         In a box/container clear of all fuel sources. Following inspection it must be
              covered with a non-flammable shield.

21. ENGINE MOUNTS

         Welded solid or chained down engine and transmission mounts are recommended.

22. ENGINE

         Must be stock year driveline. Fuel injected stays fuel injected, carbureted stays carbureted.

         If the year/make/driveline is in question, the driver MUST provide proof that the car

         was made in that fashion; otherwise, the referee may over rule.

23. HEADERS

         Must be secure and must point upwards not at other drivers or spectators.
         Must be a reasonable length or will be asked to be cut or removed (Officials discretion).

24. COOLING SYSTEM

         Radiator and cooling system must be flushed of antifreeze and only water added.
         Radiators and heater core must remain in original position or be removed.
         Removal of heater core is recommended for driver’s safety.
         Over flows for radiator must be pointed downward to the ground.
         Engine driven cooling fan may be removed. Electric cooling fan may be installed in
             its place in front or behind the radiator.

25. TRANSMISSION COOLER

         Transmission coolers are permitted and must be secured in the engine compartment.
         Transmission dipstick must be securely fastened, wired down or have an overflow tube
             pointing straight down away from the driver or spectators.

26. SHIFTERS

         Shifters may be directly attached to the transmission linkage and relocated to the floor over
         the transmission hump.

27. GAS TANK

         Stock gas tank must be removed. Must be a steel marine tank, custom steel fuel tank
              or certified racing fuel cell.  No plastic fuel tanks. 
         All tanks must be securely fastened down (bolted) in the middle of the back seat area.
         Tank must be covered with a non flammable material after inspection.
         Maximum 3 gallons of gas.
         Referee has final decision.

28. GAS LINES

        Gas lines must be metal or approved rubber. No plastic gas lines will be permitted.

        the windshield area for the officials use.

            covering lines tank and  pump.
        Non flammable covering may be a fire resistant blanket or air bag material.

31. TIRES

        All tires must be passenger car tires. No snow tires on drive axles. No double tires,
            liquid filled tires, cut tires, studs, chains or screws in the rims to hold tires.
        Largest tire permitted is P-235/75 R15 or equivalent.
        All tires must be D.O.T. approved for passenger vehicles.
        All wheel weights must be removed and no welding stem protections.

32. FIRE EXTINGUISHER

        Must be within reach of the driver, must work and have a working gauge.

33. PRE-BENDING

        No pre-bending frame or body. Notching frames is permitted.

34. MECHANICAL REPAIRS

        Must be stock material and in no way enhance ability/performance of the vehicle.
